Farewell to Summer


Summer takes its final breath

With all the warmth that’s left

The last hint of summer’s green

Fades from all things

In the branches

The bird no longer sings

The last Summer breeze

Rustles the reddening leaves

A quiet whisper in the breeze

Calls for Autumn’s Freeze

Hissing chill poisons the air 

As Autumn arises from its lair

3... 2... 1... Liftoff!

     Bonjour! Good day!      Here we are, the very first post of A Writer's Pen. If all goes to plan, I will be posting here every Monday (Update: this has since switched to every other Thursday) . My hope for this blog is that I will be able to help and encourage other writers through their courageous venture through the exhilarating (and at times, quite grueling) process of picking up the pen!      They say that " The pen is mightier than the sword" . And I'm sure anyone who has wielded one will agree that, at times, it certainly feels as heavy as a sword! Many of us may remember beginning to feel that first spark of a writer inside of us. Flash Fiction Contest!

     It seems that Thursday has come and gone without a post on A Writer's Pen . My apologies!      I have a bit of a surprise in today's post. One that I've stored in my idea vault for quite some time and been longing to do. So without further ado...  I will be hosting a flash fiction contest on this blog!        Let's get into the specifics...      To start off, I'd better define "flash fiction". Flash fiction a very short piece of fiction. It could be a story or a mere glimpse   into a much bigger picture.
